Marie Lasnon & Pierre Ferre

My 8th Great Grandparents

As recorded in Kings Daughters & Founding Mothers by Peter J. Gagne, Marie was baptized September 22, 1647 in the parish of Sainte-Vivien in Rouen, Normandy, France the daughter of Gilles Lasnon and Colette Laine. After her father’s death she left for Canada in 1667 taking with her goods worth and estimated 300 Livres for her dowry.

She marries Pierre on November 24, 1667 at Quebec City. Neither party could sign the marriage contract (illiterate) drawn up on Nov. 11 by notary Becquet. Pierre was born about 1641 in the parish of Sainte-Pierre-le-Port in Rouen the son of Pierre and Marguerite Jacquet. He can be found in the Quebec census of 1666 as a sailor.

Marie and Pierre first lived in Quebec City where daughter Jeanne-Francoise or Marie-Genevieve was baptized September 1668 followed by Pierre Joseph in August, 1670. The family then settled at Neuville which is a few miles upstream from Quebec City. Children born at that location were: Benoit, Marie-Anne, Marie-Francoise, Marguerite (direct ancestor), Marie-Angelique, and twins Nicolas and Jean-Francoise, and Jean. Nicolas and Jean died as young children. See below for additional details on all these children.

Pierre died at Neuville between February 11, 1694 and January 31, 1695. On May 8, 1701, Marie married Pierre Ledoux did Latreille at Quebec City. This Pierre was previously married to Fille du Roi Marie Guyet. He and Marie settled at Quebec City, but did not have any children together. Pierre died between 1706-1715 (Gagne offers no explanation for this wide gap). Marie died March 10, 1727 at the Hotel-Dieu de Quebec and was buried the next day.
