In the History of Canada tab, I spoke about the Filles du Roi. These were about 770 single women who came to Canada from France under the sponsorship of the King of France (Louis X1V) between 1663 and 1673. These women were sent with the intent of marrying and increasing the population of Canada. This was much needed as the ratio of men to women in 1663 was about six to one. Upon marriage, they were provided a cash dowry and on occasion other material goods. Almost all of these ladies quickly married although some did return to France and a few enter religious service. These marriages formed the basis for the lineage of most French-Canadians to this day. In my own case, I have found direct lineage to these marriages. In the following pages, I will show my relationship as well as tell the story of these marriages and their children whom form my family story.
