Mary Catherine Meloche & Louis Drouillard

My Fourth Great Grandparents

Mary Catherine was born March 22, 1774 and baptized at Assumption Church in present day Windsor. She married Louis Drouillard on January 9, 1792 at the age of 18 at the same church.

Louis was born august 12, 1768 and baptized at Assumption.

He was the son of Simon Amable Drouillard who is cited ass the builder of the earliest grist mill in Ontario (circa 1780). The Drouillard family was descended frm a line of trappers and voyaguers. The family came from Lachine, Quebec and settled in LaSalle, Ontario. The crown gave the family a deed for 100 acres of land on Turkey Creek also known as river aux Dindes. It was traditional settlement grant of a ribbon farm off the Detroit River, 3 arpents wide and 40 arpents in depth. An arpent is about 0.85 of an acre.

Louis and Catherine had eleven children. Mary died June 8, 1814. She was struck by lightning at her home and buried at Assumption cemetery.

Louis married a second time on January 24, 1815 to Angelica Bigras dit Fauvel (b. 1796). Together they had eight children.

Louis’s death is shown as potentially between 1834 and 1938. He was buried at Ste. Jean the Bapiste church in Amherstburg, Ontario.
