Louis Drouillard & Susanne Dufour

My Third Great Grandparents

Susanne was born April 14, 1792 and christened at the church of the Assumption in present day Windsor, Ontario. she bore Louis nine (9) children and died August 26, 1851 and buried from St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic church in Amherstburg, Ontario.

Louis was born October 4, 1792, the first born to Mary Meloche and Louis. He continued to live in the River Canard, Ontario area all of his life. He is listed in the 1851 and 1861 census as a yeoman farmer which should be taken to mean that he owned the land on which he farmed.

In examining those census records we see the Drouillard family neighbors consisted of Pageot, Dufour, Cote, and Meloche among other names that are intertwined with the Drouillard family line. Many of these names appear as godparents at family baptisms.

In the not unusual practice of widows and widowers, Louis quickly remarried. He married Archange Jubenville (b. August 7, 1804 and d. June 1, 1894) who had been born in Detroit. They may have had one child (Appoline) born in 1852 but this record seems unclear as Archange would have been 47 at that birth. Archange was the widow of Paul Drew (Deau?).

Archange’s sister, Angelica maried Basil Drouillard, the brother of Louis on May 4, 1819.

Louis died on January 25, 1875 and was buried from St. Jean Baptiste Church.
