Anne Dodin & Jean Mouflet did Champagne

My 8th Great Grandparents

According to Kings Daughters and Founding Mothers by Peter J. Gagne, Anne was born about 1651 in Louis, Ile de Re (arrondissement and diocese of La Rochelle. She was the daughter of Jacques Dodin and Gauchere. After her fathers death, she left for Canada in 1669 at about the age of 18 bringing with her a dowry of goods estimated at 300 livres which was a substantial amount.

On August 19, 1669, Anne married Jean in Quebec City and was given the Kings gift of 50 livres. Neither spouse could sign the marriage contract which was prepared two days previously by notary Becquet in the presence of witnesses Francoise Trottain (Sieur de Saint-Surin husband of Fille du Roi Jeanne Hardy) and Jean-Baptiste Gosset. That same day Becquet voided a marriage contract between Jean Mouflet and Anne Guitton which had been drawn up three days earlier. Jean was a plowman born about 1648 in the parish of Sainte-Catherine in Montagne-sur-Gironde (parish of Saintes), Saintonge, France and was the son of Jean Mouflet and Sebastienne Girard.

The couple settled at Lachine outside of Montreal where daughter Anne was baptized in 1670. Other children born were Jean-Baptiste (1674-1687), Marguerite (1677-1689), Louis (Dec. 6, 1680-February 26, 1750), Marie (March 3, 1683), Angelique-Gabrielle (August 19, 1685-August 1689) and Marie Suzanne (February 22, 1688- September 20, 1756).

Jean Mouflet died before October 25, 1700 when daughter Marie, my direct ancestor, married Francoise Meloche at Montreal. Anne Dodin died before February 25, 1710 which was the marriage of daughter Marie Suzanne to Henry Laforge.
